FREquently asked questions

Q: Is SNAP Flag Football associated with NFL Flag?
A: SNAP Flag Football is the Official NFL FLag League of both Birmingham and Bloomfield HIlls for 25 years. All tournaments run by NFL FLag are open to any players registered with SNAP Flag Football. If you are interested in additional invitational tournaments not associated with NFL, we have agreements with organizations all over the US abd even some National organizations.

Q: How do I register?
A: Use the links in the chart at the bottom of this page.

Q: How are individual players placed on teams?
A: This is VERY important to us and we go out of our way to make all players feel included. We are very creative on how we do this. Most teams will have 7-10 players. This is a league designed to keep schoolmates and friends playing together.  Therefore, individuals are placed on teams determined by school, buddy request, and grade.  Our goal is for each elementary and middle school to have their own flag football teams. Teams are formed using a combination of the following criteria (listed in no specific order):

  • School affiliation
  • Current Grade/Age
  • Past teammates
  • Buddy/Coach Request (We try to accommodate requests, however, refunds are not provided due to an unfulfilled request)

Q: What is the difference between paying under the Bloomfield link VS. the Birmingham one?
A:  There are specific options to use in the chart when paying. When paying for the Bitty Blitzers/Little Snappers, 5-8 grade coed division, and Girls Take The Field, you can choose whichever of the two sites you prefer. By registering in one city or the other, you are donating a portion of your registration fee directly to that city, so that is up to you.

Q: What is the cancellation/refund policy?
A:
A full refund will be given up until the last day of registration. No refunds will be allowed after this date. This means you will NOT have the game schedule prior to determining if you need to cancel or not. If we allowed players to request a refund after the game schedule and team assignments, it would not be possible to create teams with enough players, which could possibly corrupt the integrity of the league.

Q: Is flag football played inside or outside?
A: Teams play outside on turf field. Practice is often conducted on a grass field at the same location.

Q: Do teams always play at the same locations?
A: Generally, yes. On very infrequent occasions, the league reserves the right to use a different location in case of field scheduling conflicts with the school district.

Q: How many players are on a team?
A: Most teams have 7-10 players.  However, we do reserve the right to stretch these guidelines if the league deems necessary.

Q: What if my child and their classmates do not have enough players to form a team?
A: No worries! We will always try to keep classmates together, but if needed we will combine players from other schools to form your team for the season.  If there are more than enough players from any given school and grade, we will form additional teams as necessary. Everyone who wants to play is welcome.  We will not turn any players away.

Q: Do we accept team registrations?
A: Each individual must register separately. You may provide any team or buddy requests during registration, but they are not guaranteed. We do not like to be exclusive to any players and we do our best to not leave anyone out.

Q: Can the team have additional practices during the week?
A: All families commit to a single practice and game each week. Additional practices are not something that the league sponsors, so any times outside of the one hour dedicated on game day are up to each individual family.

Q: Does the league supply uniforms?
A: Yes, every flag football player participating in a league receives an official NFL reversible team jersey included in the cost of registration. Little Snappers/Bitty Blitzers receive a t-shirt.

Q: Who are the coaches?
A: Coaches are parent or high school student volunteers. The SNAP and Girls Take the Field leagues do not hire coaches. Parents may volunteer to coach their child’s team. No experience is necessary; we can help with training.  If you would like to help out, fill out the form for parent or student volunteers

Q: Who are the referees?
A: Referees are paid positions. Most, if not all, of our referees are players that have played in the league when they were younger.  If you would like to apply, fill out the Referee's form

Q: How much playing time can my child expect?
A
: Coaches are required to fairly allocate playing time equally among all players on the team. We will do our best to ensure all players receive equal playing time. All our programs promote participation, fun, and fundamentals.

Q: What do I get for my league registration fee?
A:
A seven-week season including practices, use of well-groomed fields, refereed games, a volunteer parent or high school student coach, a reversible team jersey, organized administration, a lot of FUN for you and your child—and likely some new friends!

Q: Are any awards given?
A: Players ages 4.5-2nd grade receive a participation award. 3rd-12th grade division first place winners will receive championship rings.

Q: Do all flag football players need mouth guards?
A:
Yes, it is MANDATORY that all players are wearing a mouth guard before stepping on the field. For your convenience, we sell them for $6 at the welcome tent.
